Introducing SFW Hub: Wolverhampton. Led by Maya Patel, the founder and director of Reinvntd CIC.
WHAT’S ON?
friday 25 SEPTEMBER
-
Times: 6:00pm-9:00pm
What can art and fashion teach us about the way we consume, and how might creativity help us build a more sustainable future?
Join Reinvntd CIC, the local partner delivering SFW Hub Wolverhampton, for a special Friday Lates panel discussion inspired by Wolverhampton Art Gallery’s internationally significant Pop Art collection.
Emerging alongside the rapid growth of mass production, advertising and consumer culture, Pop Art transformed everyday products, familiar brands and popular imagery into works of art. More than 60 years later, these themes feel increasingly relevant as we confront the environmental and social consequences of overconsumption.
Using fashion as a lens, this lively and informal conversation will explore how creativity, craftsmanship, material innovation, repair and reuse can challenge our relationship with the things we buy, wear and discard. It will also consider consumer behaviour, the circular economy and the roles that artists, designers, businesses, local authorities and communities can play in creating positive change.
The conversation will be hosted by Maya Patel, Founder and Director of Reinvntd CIC, with invited contributors representing textile art and material research, fashion design and upcycling, circular-economy development and the Sustainable Fashion Week movement.
Open to everyone, particularly artists, makers, designers, students, educators, local businesses, sustainability professionals and anyone interested in art, fashion, consumer culture and creativity.
Presented by Reinvntd CIC x Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Part of Friday Lates. The panel discussion will last approximately 45 minutes, followed by audience questions. Free to attend.
Location: Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Lichfield Street, Wolverhampton, WV1 1DU
Tickets: Free tickets can be booked online here.
