fashion reclaimed

Our theme for 2025 invited people to take the power back.

Reclaim fashion through reclaiming your style, your connection to your clothing, your skills, your community, your love of colour, the magic of secondhand, the love of visible repair and the secrets of invisible repair!

Reclaim fashion through a variety of activities. Take action in powerful partnership with your network, or even just on your own… in an individual, unique resistance of the industry’s status quo.

sfw - how does it work?

SFW 2024 is community-led. Our programme is split between our Hubs and our Fringe, with all activities being designed and delivered by brilliant and inspiring people in the community.

Our regional Hubs took place between 23-29 September and had multiple activities to inspire you.

The Community Fringe runs for a whole month! A jam packed programme of one-off grassroots events and activities between 12 September and 12 October.

THE POWER OF REPAIR

How often does a rip, a stain, a moth hole or a missing button mean your clothes end up in the bin - heading to landfill and incinerators or even deserts, waterways and the open sea? Fashion waste is littering our shared land, impacting the soil, air and water that we depend on.

Today, we regularly wear less than 30% of the clothing in our wardrobes. Some these garments will hang unworn due to needing a little mend.

We want you to harness the #PowerOfRepair to save your clothing. Repair is a powerful form of resistance in a world of ultra fast fashion

1/3 of people in Britain were never taught how to sew

If we repair a garment, it is likely to be kept in use for another 1.3 years

Extending the life of a garment by 9 months reduces its environmental impact by 20-30%
